Intervention

Following the assessment phase, the most appropriate style of intervention is determined to suit the child and family lifestyle. Goals are developed in collaboration with the therapist and family. you will receive a copy of these goals at the commencement of therapy.

Clinic Based Therapy

Most children are seen in the clinic for intervention. Children receive one to one therapy with the Occupational Therapist. Generally the sessions last between half hour to one hour depending on the nature of the therapy and frequency of appointments.

The activities within the sessions are fun and motivating for the child. using a combination of play-based therapy and table top activities, the child will gain therapeutic benefits in a way that he/she will find stimulating.

Clinic based therapy is often preferred due to the large variety of therapeutic equipment that is available at the clinic.

Outreach Therapy

Some children benefit from therapy that is undertaken in the natural learning environment such as preschool or school. The Occupational Therapist and parent negotiates with the director/principle a suitable arrrangement which allows the intervention to be conducted in the classroom, library or an alternative area of the school/preschool.

The benefit of this style of therapy is that children can immediately apply the skills learned in the therapy session into the class environment. The other benefit of this style of therapy is that close collaboration with the class teacher and therapist can be fostered.
